From the ashes of SEMTEX 87 come GUNNER, a negative hardcore unit who treat their existence as a series of maneuvers with an unknown end goal. “An exercise in discipline and power.” Hardcore, dissonance and physicality underlines every move. Nothing without purpose. Where it will end is anyone’s guess though. The world is uncertain and filled with pain. Society cracks the psyche. Life has little quality.
Similar to SEMTEX 87, whose impetus was informed by the movements of a deranged man rampaging around town in a stolen tank on a revenge kick, GUNNER too finds abstract inspiration from a Perth local, an inwardly tortured man with a penchant for vice and suicidal ideation, that one of the band members regularly encountered at his night job. “There is a sense of being forced to apprehend the world with the tools one has been given, and sometimes those instruments are blunt and fractured to begin with. What separates us is much less than what we might imagine it to be, and what separates us from Society is much greater than we can tolerate comfortably. Necessarily, I think it is in that gap of psychosocial discomfiture that we make what we make.”
